Overview

Global commodity transactions require a delicate balance between speed, trust, and financial security. For importers of essential goods such as sugar, delays in securing payment guarantees can disrupt supply chains, affect pricing agreements, and jeopardize commercial relationships.

In this case, an Ethiopian client approached Trade Finance Company International seeking a financial instrument that would provide assurance to a Thai sugar supplier while protecting the interests of both parties involved in the transaction.

To facilitate the purchase, Trade Finance Company International structured a USD 10.55 million Standby Letter of Credit, enabling the buyer to demonstrate financial commitment and the seller to proceed with confidence.

The Challenge
Our Solution

Several factors made this transaction particularly time-sensitive and complex:

High-Value Commodity Purchase

The acquisition involved more than USD 10 million worth of sugar, requiring a robust financial instrument acceptable to all parties.

Cross-Border Trust Requirements

With the buyer and supplier operating in different jurisdictions, the seller required a reliable bank-backed payment undertaking before moving forward.

Documentation and Compliance

The transaction involved multiple stages of documentation, including agreements, invoices, promissory notes, and system drafts that needed to be completed accurately and efficiently.

Urgent Execution Timeline

The SBLC needed to be issued and advised promptly to maintain momentum in the procurement process and avoid disruptions to the client's supply commitments.

To address these challenges, Trade Finance Company International implemented a structured execution strategy designed to prioritize efficiency without compromising compliance.

Our team coordinated the preparation and review of all required transaction documents, ensuring alignment between the buyer's requirements and the supplier's expectations.

Efficient Processing and Coordination

End-to-End Transaction Oversight

From the initial draft stage through the final advised copy, Trade Finance Company International closely monitored the process to ensure smooth execution.

Execution Timeline

The transaction commenced with the preparation and circulation of the draft agreement. On March 29, 2026, the approved draft agreement was received, followed by the issuance of the Deed of Agreement and invoice.

By April 7, invoices and the promissory note had been finalized, allowing the transaction to proceed to the next stage. The required pre-issuance arrangements were subsequently completed, and payment confirmation was received on April 26, 2026.

On April 28, the system draft was received and reviewed pending execution of the signed and stamped copies. The following day, April 29, the finalized system draft was confirmed, paving the way for issuance.

The first relayed SWIFT copy of the SBLC was successfully received shortly thereafter, and on May 4, 2026, the final advised SWIFT copy was delivered to the beneficiary bank.

The transaction was officially completed and advised by the bank within just 7 days, demonstrating Trade Finance Company International’s ability to execute high-value trade finance transactions with speed and precision.
